Pregabalin is a non-gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor agonist or antagonist, a novel calcium channel modulator that blocks voltage-dependent calcium channels and reduces the release of neurotransmitters. It is mainly used clinically for neuralgia associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia and adjunctive treatment of adults with partial seizures, generalized anxiety disorder, central neuralgia (including neuralgia accompanying spinal cord injury, stroke and multiple sclerosis) and fibromyalgia.
